Felipe Massa finished third this week in Austria and is also the 40th time on his podium in his career. ‘Personally, this is an incredible moment, and it is the same for our entire team. Our team has a glorious past, and we will continue to create a glorious future. Today is significant.’ Philip Massa said. At the end of this year’s eight races, he temporarily ranked sixth in the Drivers’ standings with 62 points.
The F1 driver from Brazil is the first player to join the Richard Mille sports star team. He has also been a Richard Mille watch test driver, helping Richard Mille achieve amazing achievements in the watchmaking industry. These include testing of the nano-carbon fiber base plate and Alusic alloy case. The nano-carbon fiber base plate was first used on RM 006 FM, and it was widely used in many Richard Mille watches. Alusic alloy case is only used in RM 009 FM.
Richard Mille and Philip Massa formed a deep friendship in the cooperation. This time, in preparation for the 10th anniversary, Richard Mille specially customized the ’10th Anniversary’ watch series for Philip Massa, including two timepieces-RM 056 and RM 011.
The RM 056 watch embodies Richard Mille’s most exciting patent innovations, cutting-edge technologies that have a reputation in the fine watchmaking industry. The entire RMCC1 movement is made of grade 5 titanium alloy, and the number of single parts has reached more than 500. This chronograph chronograph movement is undoubtedly one of the most delicate movements in watchmaking. At the same time, this tourbillon movement is also equipped with power reserve, torque display function and a function selector. Just as Philip Massa’s spirit of continuous improvement in the field of racing, the engineers of Richard Mille, who are constantly improving, are constantly improving the movement, carefully adjusting the timing accuracy, and reducing the friction to improve the tracking performance, ensuring the movement is stable for a long time.
The case of the watch is cut from a single piece of sapphire. After years of research and testing, the cutting process has finally reached the best standard that combines comfort and durability. Regardless of design or technology, this process needs to overcome unprecedented challenges: the processing of sapphire is extremely complicated, and each case takes about 1,000 hours, of which the bezel, main case and bottom case need 430 hours Cutting process and 350-hour polishing process. Therefore, despite the many imitators of this technology, it is still far from Richard Mille.
Another timepiece in the ‘Tenth Anniversary’ watch series is RM 011. It is named after Philip Massa, and you can see the core idea behind it. RM 011’s movement RMAC1 is Richard Mille’s first flyback chronograph automatic movement. The movement is made of grade 5 titanium alloy, hand polished, and equipped with an annual calendar, a 60-minute flyback timer and a countdown function. The case is made of NTPT® carbon fiber, which is highly resistant to corrosion and unique in shape, which is even more significant for Richard Mille.
These superb watchmaking skills complement Massa’s own brilliant achievements. In his 13-year racing career, Massa has participated in 218 races, achieved 16 pole positions, 40 podiums, 11 of which won the Grand Prix championship and won a total of 1,012 points (including (3rd place recently in Austria in 2015). He spent most of his career at Ferrari (now with Williams), second in team history and fourth in history.
The design of the RM 056 and RM 011 is inspired by Philip Massa’s racing color scheme. The collar, pad printing, buttons and crown are decorated in blue or yellow, and the driver’s personal logo is cleverly placed at 1 o’clock. The RM 011 watch sapphire dial cleverly uses Philip Massa’s car number ’19’ instead of the original 12 o’clock. The caseback is engraved with his personal signature, which is also a highlight of this watch.
The core of the ’10th Anniversary’ watch series is ‘exclusive’. RM 056 is limited to 10 pieces, while RM 011 is limited to 100 pieces.
